Telehandler Competency Training

What does this training involve? 

Nationally recognised training in the safe operation and maintenance of telehandlers, including lifting and shifting loads using a variety of attachments including: pallet forks, hay forks, GP bucket and jib.

How long is this course?

Two days on site

Training and assessment carried out by Midstate Training

Are there any pre requisites for this training?

Must be 18 years of age or older.

There is mandatory pre learning which must be completed prior to commencing the course.

Does this course give me a license to operate a telehandler?

No, completing this training does not result in the Highrisk Worksafe license required for operating telehandlers over three tonne. It does allows operators to build on their own capabilities and get the best use out of the machine.

It also assists employers in meeting their requirements under section 21 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (2004) "provide an adequate level of information, instruction, training and supervision to employees to enable them to work safely., as well giving them confidence that a job is getting done safely and efficiently.

Most importantly, completing this training contributes to seeing everyone home safe at the end of the day.

Do I need a license to operate a telehandler in Victoria?

Three tonne or less lift capacity:  No, you do not require a licence, however Worksafe Victoria (2017) states “Telehandler operators with a capacity of three tonne or less do not require a licence, but should be competent in their use and have training in relation to the machine and attachment being used.”

More than three tonne lift capacity:  Yes. Worksafe Victoria (2017) states "A mobile crane licence (with the minimum being a  non– slewing CN licence) is required if the telehandler  has a capacity greater than three tonne and does not  have a work platform fitted."

Current CN licence unit code TLILIC0018. Holding a Dogman license is no longer a pre requisite for completing this training.
